The eruption of Volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD buried not only bodies and houses in Pompeii. Under the ashes archaelogists have found remains of food, cutlery, crockery and other traces of the delicious Ancient Pompeiian cuisine. Much of what we know about what and how Ancient Romans used to eat and drink is based on this amazing collections of findings.
Our local expert guide will take you on a tasty and memorable journey through the food production facilities, shops and dining venues of Ancien Pompeii. You will learn about original recipes, enter real restaurants, mills, warehouses, bakeries, fish and meat parlours and other fascinating placed where food was served.
You will satisfy your curiosity and your tastebuds by eating and drinking many of those products. You will touch history by your hand...oops..by your tongue!
In addition to the Ancien Pompeii food tour you have the chance to visit an artisanal pasta making facility in the area. Still today the pasta produced in the region is the best and most renowned pasta made in Italy. You will see how they make it and taste the product on a typical flavorful meal.
After the pasta we will enter a Mozzarella production facility. The owner will show us how he makes his cheese and of course we will taste it! After the visit we will have a rich lunch including much the food we saw and learn about served with genuine local wine.
