We start at the historic Campo San Giacomo a Rialto, a charming “piazza” full of character, unchanged since the middle ages. This “piazza” has been the city’s trade centre for centuries. Our guide will tell you all about where the produce is sourced and just seeing and smelling this fantastic fresh produce will get your taste buds tingling.
The market is packed with stalls alive with a rainbow of colours, a true feast for the senses. Our guide will describe this region’s fruit, vegetables and meat, some that may be very new to you. And…..a sight not to be missed, but your nose will certainly lead you to it, is Venice’s fish market, the oldest in Europe.
Venice has so much to offer, but the best things usually involve food! On this guided food tour you will see the best that the region has to offer: juicy olives from nearby Lake Garda; cow cheese from the highlands of Asiago; soft and succulent polenta chunks served with marinated seafood; tasty cuttlefish and stockfish, to name but a few!
And of course all good food needs something to complement it, so you will get to taste some the most famous wines of the area. Did you know that the region around Venice is the largest producer of wine in Italy!
The tour progresses through the quaint “vicoli” and alongside the many hidden gems of canals, passing by the many antiquated bars and shops. And, a must for any tour of Venice is a visit to the Rialto Bridge, Campo San Bartolomeo, Marco Polo’s house and a stroll along the unforgettable Grand Canal.
This tour combines wonderful food, fine wines and the exquisite sights of Venice. We stop at seven restaurants and you get to sample a variety of dishes, from traditional pasta accompanied by a classic prosecco to the famous Tiramisu, a dessert that originates from Venice!
We end this unforgettable tour in Campo San Giovanni e Paolo with its famous Basilica which houses the remains of twenty-five of the “Doges”, Venice’s city leaders until the end of the XVIII century. But, no tour would be complete without that final cup of Italian Coffee, after which your guide will be happy to direct you to your accommodation for a well-earned rest!
