Naples Archaeological Museum Tour
Naples Archaeological Museum Tour: A cliffside adventure!
The National Archaelogical museum of Naples houses one of the world's most precious collections of Greek-Roman artworks.
The museum was founded by Charles VII, king of Naples in late XVIII century to preserve the treasures inherited from his ancestors and those discovered during the excavations of the Ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
On this tour we will see famous sculptures such as the Farnese Bull and Atlas; colorful mosaics such as the Battle between Darius and Alexander; original 2000 years old frescoes detached from the houses in Pompeii, Stabia and other excavated ancient towns buried by the eruption of Volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The collections are vast and include different types of artefacts. We provide general tours of the museum highlights as well as more specific itineraries focused on a particular subject.
We suggest to bcombine the museum visit with the exploration of the ruins of Pompei or Herculaneum in order to comprehensively understand art, life and society of Ancient Roman times.
