The history of the Gallery begins in the 1883 with the initiative of Italian Minister Guido Baccelli who decided to create the space for the newly unified Italian state's contemporary artworks. Today the museum’s collection hosts over 5 000 paintings and sculptures by the world-renowned artists from the 19th to the 21st century.
