Tarquinia: the Etruscan Necropolis and National Museum half-day Private tour

• HOURS 1-2

  Meet the guide at Piazza Trento e Trieste and start our history-focused tour of Tarquinia following in the footsteps of ancient Etruscans.

  We will visit the archaeological site of the Monterozzi Necropolis which is an ancient cemetery with approximately 6 000 Etruscan tombs. During this guided tour we will see some of the most representative graves, decorated with precious and colourful frescoes depicting the magical-religious scenes, landscapes, exotic animals and daily live of Etruscans. We will go back in time and discover UNESCO Heritage monuments, including the tomb of the Lionesses, of the Warrior, of Hunting and Fishing, of Cardarelli's, of the Lotus, of the Gorgoneion, of the Jugglers, of the Leopards, of the Feasts, of the Flowers, of Maenads, of Bartoccini's, of the Ogre and the Shields and more.

• HOUR 3-4

  After visiting the Necropolis our guide will take you to the historic centre of Tarquinia with the picturesque medieval towers and breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Walking through the tiny narrow streets and ancient squares we will reach the second destination of our tour – the National Archaeological Museum, housed in the beautiful renaissance Vitelleschi Palace.

  We will head inside the museum to explore an important collections of artefacts dating from the 9th century BC to the Roman period. You will see Etruscan sarcophagus, precious frescoes, jewels made of gold and gemstones and other treasures of ancient Tarquinia. Our guide will focus your attention on the most important pieces and give you unique insight into the ancient culture and daily lives of the Etruscans.
