Highlights of Naples Half-Day Private Tour

ITINERARY :

This is the itinerary of the standard 4 hours tour, but if you wish we can customize it to make it longer or shorter !

• HOUR 1

  We will start our tour from the most emblematic square and a symbol of renovated Naples - Piazza del Plebiscito. Here we will see the significant historic buildings with great artistic and historic importance, including the Royal Palace, which was the former residences of the Bourbon Kings, the magnificent 19th-century Basilica of St. Francis of Paola, the Prefecture and the Palace of Salerno.

  A short walk brings us to beautiful light-filled shopping gallery built in the 19th century in honour of Umberto I of Savoy. Together we will discover its gorgeous and monumental interior topped with a glass dome and steel roof. You will be able to admire the galleries’ emblematic arcades, as well as many luxurious designer stores and restaurants which it hosts.

• HOUR 2

  After that we will take a relaxing walk through the most trendiest street of the city – via Toledo. Famous for its high-quality restaurants, bars and cafés it also houses some interesting landmarks such as Piazza Dante, Piazza Trieste and Trento, Palazzo Cirella and more.

  We then take a walk through one of the most authentic district of Naples where you can feel the real spirit of the city. Quartieri Spagnoli have been painted for many years as a place to avoid and one of the most dangerous areas of Naples. Today, this area represents Neapolitan popular culture and can be truly considered a beaten heart of the city. You will enjoy strolling through a grid of lovely alleys and stairs which house typical tavernas, small artisan shops, historic food markets and series of murals dedicated to the present and past history of Naples.

• HOUR 3

  Next, we will explore another important street of the city that divides the historic centre in two part. Translated literally, Spaccanapoli means "Naples splitter", during the ancient period it was one of the three main roads (known as decumani) that traversed city of Neapolis founded in 6 century BC. Today area is home to popular restaurants and authentic local shops as well as to great historic monuments and historic corners of the old city. Along the way we will see Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, the 14th century Santa Chiara Monastery, the San Lorenzo Maggiore Basilica, the neoclassical Palazzo Venezia and many other prominent sites.

  We will continue our sightseeing tour with the oldest street of Naples, Via dei Tribunali, which dates back to the ancient Greek and Roman period. Here we well dig deep in history and try to unravel the ancient mysteries and secrets that inhabited this area over the centuries. During the walk we will see the main Cathedral of Naples, known also as “Cattedrale di San Gennaro” and explore its impressive interior decorated with frescoes by Domenichino and Giovanni Lanfranco.

• HOUR 4

  Another short walk will bring us to the last stop of our tour, Castel dell'Ovo. This fortification was built by the Normans in the 12th century and represent an excellent example of the late-medieval architecture. Walking around its fortified stone walls we will discover the rich history of the Castle while enjoying the pleasant scent of salty air and the fantastic views over the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
