Itinerary

• 1st Stop

  Piazza del Plebiscito

  We will start our tour from one of the most symbolic venues of Naples. The Piazza del Plebiscito is an enormous public square in the heart of the city, surrounded by remarkable buildings and palaces of great historic importance. Here you will see the Royal Palace, which was the former residences of the Bourbon Kings, the magnificent 19th-century Basilica of St. Francis of Paola, the Prefecture and the Palace of Salerno.

• 2nd Stop

  Galleria Umberto I

  We will duck into the beautiful light-filled shopping gallery topped with a glass dome and steel roof. It was built in the 19th century in honour of Umberto I of Savoy who succeeded to control the cholera epidemic that spread across Naples. You will be able to admire the galleries’ emblematic arcades, as well as many luxurious designer stores and restaurants which it hosts.

• 3rd Stop

  Via Toledo

  We will visit the beaten heart of the city and one of the most popular attractions for tourists. Via Toledo is a historic street, which was built in 1536 by the order of the viceroy Pedro Alvarez de Toledo. Today, it is one of the trendiest areas of Naples, full of boutiques, chain stores and restaurants. Along the way you will see some iconic landmarks such as Piazza Dante, Piazza Trieste and Trento, Palazzo Cirella and more.

• 4th Stop

  Quartieri Spagnoli (Spanish Neighbourhood)

  We will explore a historic neighbourhood founded in the 16th century to accommodate the Spanish military garrisons during the occupation. Today it is considered one of the most authentic districts which represents Neapolitan popular culture. Walking through a grid of lovely alleys and stairs, you will see typical tavernas, small artisan shops, historic food markets and series of murals dedicated to the present and past history of Naples.

• 5th Stop

  Spaccanapoli

  Translated literally, Spaccanapoli means "Naples splitter", it is an imaginary line that divides the historic centre in two parts. With your local guide you will discover this lively and bustling area which houses plenty of restaurants, cosy bars and local shops as well as great historic monuments and authentic corners of the old city. During the walk you will see Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, the 14th century Santa Chiara Monastery, the San Lorenzo Maggiore Basilica, the neoclassical Palazzo Venezia and many other attractions.

• 6th Stop

  Via dei Tribunali

  We will continue our tour with another important district which crosses the heart of the Old Town in Naples. Via dei Tribunali is considered the oldest street of Naples and dates back to the ancient Greek and Roman period. This area is famous for its gothic and mysterious atmosphere with a plenty of historic monuments of great symbolic importance. Along the way we will see some interesting attractions, including Duomo, the main Cathedral of Naples. Also called 'Cattedrale di San Gennaro', this 14th century church is known particularly for its chapel decorated with frescoes by Domenichino and Giovanni Lanfranco.

• 7th Stop

  Naples Underground

  After walking through the picturesque streets of the city we will discover what lies beneath Naples. In a company of a professional guide you will descend into the Catacombs of San Gennaro and explore the large complex of underground tunnels spanning 2400 years of history.

• 8th Stop

  Castel dell'Ovo

  Castel dell'Ovo ("Egg Castle") is the oldest fortification in Naples, built by the Normans in the 12th century. Walking around its fortified stone walls we will travel back in time and discover the rich history of the Castle and its past inhabitants. The breath-taking views over the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius will make you fall in love with the city and its amazing location.

• 9th Stop

  Castel Nuovo

  We will end our full-day experience of Naples with a visit to another medieval fortification – Castel Nuovo, also known as Maschio Angioino. This Castel is a popular venue for cultural events and home to the Municipal Museum. Here we will see the Palatine Chapel with the beautiful frescoes painted by Giotto, the Armoury Hall, the Hall of the Baron and the collection of paintings by Neapolitan artists from the 17th to early 20th centuries.
