Itinerary
We will explore the city's most important hill, which served as the political center of ancient Rome. Here, we’ll visit the renowned Piazza del Campidoglio, home to the bronze equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, and discover the historic basilicas and palaces that surround the square.
Trajan’s Column is a significant ancient Roman monument that has survived nearly intact. Erected in 113 AD, it was built to commemorate Emperor Trajan's victory in the Dacian Wars. The column is adorned with intricate reliefs, forming a continuous narrative that details the emperor’s military campaigns in Dacia.
This ancient church traces its origins to the 6th century, though its current façade and interior were restored in the 15th century under Pope Martinus V. The basilica is renowned for its portico featuring Renaissance arches and its magnificent Baroque interior, designed by Carlo and Francesco Fontana.
Galleria Sciarra is a stunning example of Art Nouveau architecture. Built in 1888, it originally served as an open-air courtyard for the Palazzo Sciarra Colonna di Carbognano. During our visit, we’ll admire the exquisite decorations by painter Giuseppe Cellini, which depict women in line with the ideals of the era, highlighting various feminine virtues.
Designed by Niccolò Salvi in 1735, this is arguably the most famous and beautiful fountain in the world. We will explore its grand architecture, adorned with Latin inscriptions.
Founded in 1650, this Jesuit Church is dedicated to Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit Order. The basilica is especially renowned for its illusionary dome created by Andrea Pozzo, who masterfully employed perspective to simulate architectural features.
Our tour concludes with one of the enduring symbols of Ancient Rome—the magnificent Pantheon. Originally constructed as a temple for all the gods, it was converted into a Catholic church in 609 AD. It is particularly famous for its circular dome, regarded as the largest in the world since ancient times. Here, we will visit the tomb of the great Renaissance artist Raphael and delve into the history, symbolism, and architectural features of this remarkable temple.
