    Marcus Aurelius, Emperor from 161 to 180 AD, was born in Rome and many monuments and locations in the cities are connected to his life and deeds.  As a Stoic philosopher, Aurelius spent considerable time reflecting on his personal philosophy, often writing in his private journals, known today as Meditations. These writings, penned during his campaigns, offered insight into his struggles, values, and beliefs.

    On this tour, led by a local historian, you will learn about his philosophic principles, his career, his feelings and relations while visit the most interesting sites related to him. Rome, with its grandeur, was the site of many of his decisions and reforms, including military and economic policies aimed at stabilizing the empire.

    Despite the turmoil of war on the empire's frontiers, Marcus was dedicated to justice and moral integrity. His presence in the city was not just that of a ruler, but of a leader striving to maintain the moral and ethical values that he espoused. The Colosseum, the Forum,  the Mausoleum, the grand Column all witnessed his actions as a statesman, while his personal reflections resonate as timeless reminders of duty and self-restraint.
